I have been watching The Vampire Diaries on the CW since it first premiered in September. I was seeing ads for the show before it aired and knew that the show was going to be inspired by the books by L.J. Smith. I decided to read the books before the show came on so that I would have an idea as to what was going on. I read the first 4 books that make up the main Vampire Diaries series: The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury, and Dark Reunion. I have not yet read the new trilogy, The Vampire Diaries The Return: Nightfall, Shadow Souls, and Midnight. The last two not yet published yet. I really liked the first 4 books, but just never got around to reading the other. While the TV show is based on the books, there are some big differences. Don't get me wrong, I like the show for what it is, it just doesn't always follow the books. I guess the creates are allowed to do that though.
Some of the differences so far are: In the books Elena, the main-ish character was blonde. That was a huge part of the books actually. Damon doesn't call his brother by his name, which is Stefan, until the fourth book. It's always "Brother." Elena has a little sister, Margaret who is like 3 not a teen-aged brother, Jeremy . Elena's aunt is a bit older and engaged. Vicki does not become a vampire. Caroline and Elena aren't that close. Elena has two best friends Bonnie, who is in the show and Meredith, who is not on the show. Some names are different, which isn't a huge deal. And that's about all I can think of right now.
So, last nights episode, Haunted, was pretty good. It's Halloween in Mystic Falls and Vampire Vicki is growing restless. According to Elena she is "A vampire with issues." Things take a turn for the worst when Vicki and Jeremy sneak off to make out. Vicki is super hungry and tries to bit Jeremy. Elena find them and Vicki goes after her. She bites her and it drinking her blood when Stefan comes up behind her and steaks her and she dies. That's just the cliff notes version. If you want to get the whole story, watch the episode. You might be lost so why not just catch up on the whole season. I'll add the link to The Vampire Diaries page on the CW website at the bottom. The goings-on in this episode have definitely cause quite a bit of drama for the people 0f Mystic Falls. I cannot wait to see what happens as the season goes on.
The Vampire Diaries
I have loved Supernatural (airing on the CW as well) since it first came on. I have seen every episode in the shows 5 seasons. I'm not really a horror/scary movie fan, but this show is awesome. The actors being easy on the eyes certainly does not hurt...Dean and Sam Winchester travel the country hunting bad/evil things and generally kicking ass. These guys rock. The relationship between them is pretty Strong too. When things get bad, they have each other to rely on. When they occasionally fight and go their separate ways for awhile, they always find a way back together. Part of what makes this show so good is the relationship between Dean and Sam. I honestly do not think the show would be as good if it were two friends instead of two brothers.
There have been different plot lines in the different seasons. This season, the brothers are trying to stop the Apocalypse. Sam kind of accidentally started the Apocalypse when he killed a demon which broke the last of 66 seals, freeing Lucifer. Last nights episode, The Curious Case of Dean Winchester, didn't really revolve around that plot though. It was about a poker playing witch, Patrick, who plays for years instead of money. Dean loses his game and becomes an old man. They try to reverse the magic but can't Dean almost dies. We think he does, until he walks outside his young, normal self. Sam won a game against Patrick, winning all of Dean's years back. (Again, this is the cliff notes version, check the show out for more.) It got pretty tense there for a while. I wasn't sure if Sam would win and Dean would live. It would have been so sad. No more Supernatural, you could not have the show with only one Winchester Brother.
Supernatural
I know this is quite a bit of words and junk on my part. What can I say, I like to/am good at rambling. I'm even more beat now. Good night have a wonderful Halloween!
